Typesetting mathematics in the browser costs about a megabyte of JavaScript and shows the reader raw TeX until it finishes. Doing it at build time costs nothing at all.

The catch is that equation numbering is document-scoped, so the whole article has to be rendered in one pass.

The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus

The two operations of calculus are inverse to one another. Making that precise is the content of the fundamental theorem, and the statement is worth reading carefully.

The result connects two definitions that look nothing alike: the derivative as a limit of difference quotients, and the integral as a limit of Riemann sums.
